Ingredients
5ea Johnsonville Brats (Plain or Brats & Beer)
6ea Miller Genuine Draft or other sweet beer
Process
Put the brats in a pot
Cover with beer
Build charcoal fire with hot and cold side
Put pot on the cold side
Grill the brats being careful not to let the casings split.
When the brats start to get too hot put them back into the beer.
Once cooled down a little bit put them back onto the fire.
Repeat this until the brats are well browned.
It is ok if the beer boils but not necessarily preferred. Add beer or water to keep the beer from boiling too much.
Skim the fat off of the beer and discard.
If I need to add beer I always add ½ half a bottle at a time and drink the other half.
Once the brats are well browned, put them back into the beer, take the pot off the grill and let cool.
You may take them out of the beer, put them in a covered pyrex dish and refrigerate, or serve immediately.
If you refrigerate the brats
When you are ready to serve, you can put them back into a pot, cover with beer, put the pot on the cold side of a charcoal fire, and put the brats back onto the grill, in and out of the beer. This will add another layer of sugar to the outside of the brats. You should only warm the brats at this time. This will let the brats be warm but not so hot on the inside. This also makes a good show, and is the best way to serve.
Or, you can just reheat in the microwave
