
Ingredients
Celeste has been making this recipe for almost 60 years, and it hasn’t failed yet
1C Water
1C Milk
4C AP Flour
2C Bread Flour
3T Sugar
2t Salt
3T Butter
1pkg Active dry yeast
Process
Scald the milk
Stir in the sugar, salt, and butter
Cool to lukewarm
Measure the warm water into a large bowl
Sprinkle, or crumble up in the yeast.
Stir until dissolved
Add the lukewarm milk mixture
Add 2C of AP flour
Add 1C of Bread Flour
Beat until smooth
Add another 2C of AP flour, and 1/2C of Bread Flour to make a soft dough
Turn out onto a board that has been lightly floured with the remaining 1/2C of Bread flour
Knead until smooth and elastic, about 8 to 10 minutes
Form into a smooth ball
Place into a greased bowl
Turn to grease the top
Cover, and let rise in a warm place 80 – 85F
free from daft until doubled.. About 1 hour
Punch the dough down and weigh it
Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a loaf
Place each loaf into a greased 9 x5 x3 bread pan
Cover and let rest in a warm place until doubled
Bake at 400Ffor about 30 minutes or until done
Makes 2 loaves
